Flightseeing opportunities abound as you cruise around the coast – spectacular Wineglass Bay, Hobart Mount Wellington, the remote Southwest National Park, Gordon River on the west coast, King Island, the distinctive Stanley Nut patchwork quilt countryside of northwest Tasmania, and the finale, Cradle Mountain and Barn Bluff.

DAY ONE, Saturday, November 15

Barnbougle Golf Course, near Bridport, is where we start the 2025 Tasmania Air Safari with lunch. Originally a potato farm, it has evolved into one of Australia’s finest golf courses, with facilities to match. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the Lost Farm restaurant, positioned atop a coastal dune, offering stunning views of both the golf course and the coastline.

After lunch, a brief scenic flight will take you along Tasmania’s northeast coast to Friendly Beaches airstrip. You will be transferred to the Beachfront Bicheno Hotel, where you can enjoy beautiful ocean views.

DAY TWO, Sunday, November 16

Today’s tour explores the Freycinet Peninsula, named after the brothers de Freycinet, Louis Claude and Louis Henri. In 1802, the brothers de Freycinet, Louis Claude and Louis Henri, joined French explorer Nicholas Baudin on an expedition to map the southern coasts of mainland Australia and Van Diemen’s Land. The Freycinet Peninsula, is where we are going today

In the 1820s, whalers arrived at Wineglass Bay. For two decades, they explored the bay in small boats, harpooning nearby whales and bringing them ashore for butchering. The bones were used for corsets and hoop skirts, while the blubber was boiled to extract oil for export to Britain for lighting.

During this period, the blue waters would turn red from the blood, resembling the hue of a glass of red wine, thus giving the bay its name. By the 1850s, the whalers had moved on, but sheep, cattle grazing, and coal and tin mining followed. Environmental degradation continued until 1916, when the peninsula was declared a national park.

DAY THREE, Monday, November 17

A short flight to Hobart will take you via Schouten Island, providing aerial views of Wineglass Bay and Port Arthur, before following the Derwent Valley to Cambridge Airport.

From your accommodation, it is a short walk to historic Battery Point and Salamanca. The afternoon Hobart town tour includes a visit to Mount Wellington, which at 1,271 meters, offers panoramic views of Hobart.

DAY FOUR, Tuesday, November 18

The scenic route to Strahan takes you through the wild Southwest National Park of Tasmania. Leaving Cambridge, your path will proceed south down the Derwent towards Bruny Island, offering great views of Hobart and Mount Wellington.

Deep within the national park, among dramatic and challenging mountains, lies Melaleuca, a former tin-mining settlement accessible only by plane or a week of walking. Following the string of beaches flanked by dense wilderness should bring you to Strahan just in time for lunch.

DAY FIVE, Wednesday, November 19

The Gordon River cruise will first take you to Hell’s Gates, which was the name given by the convicts to the narrow entry into Macquarie Harbour. Sarah Island, which predated Port Arthur, was their destination which is where the cruise takes us next.

Every convict feared it – yet still, they managed to turn hell on earth, into one of the largest shipbuilding yards in Australia.

The last stop will be at Heritage Landing for a boardwalk stroll through the ancient forests in this World Heritage wilderness.

DAY SIX, Thursday, November 20

Today’s five-hour tour of King Island includes visiting Lavinia Beach with its renowned surf break and Cape Wickham Lighthouse, established in 1861, and standing at 48 meters as Australia’s tallest lighthouse. Today’s flight will follow the west coast to King Island. You will also enjoy lunch at Currie before being dropped off at the airport for the flight to Devonport.

Along the way, there are many flightseeing opportunities, the rugged coastline of the west coast, Stanley Nut and Table Cape, and just before Devonport, Cradle Mountain and Barn Bluff.

DAY SEVEN, FRIDAY, November 21

Today’s, tour will first visit Sheffield, known for its many murals, for morning tea.

Passing through picturesque countryside, we reach the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre for transfer to the start of the Dove Lake Walk. This six-kilometer walk around the glacial lake takes a couple of hours and leads you past the historic boatshed, through dense rainforest thickets, and directly beneath the nose of Cradle Mountain, where you might see its reflection on the lake.

On the return, we will stop at Leven Canyon, where a couple of lookouts on the one-kilometer circuit track provide stunning views of a canyon cut through a steep, forested country by the mighty Leven River.

DAY EIGHT, SATURDAY, November 22

After a hearty breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to your fellow travelers and set off for home.
